My journey started when I was nine years old. My dad worked for Goodyear and dad was transferred to Mexico City. Early on, my sister and I got salmonella and were prescribed very strong antibiotics which is what doctors think now was most probably the cause of my Leukemia, however, Mexico City being a very polluted country, it is also thought that the pollution might have also been a cause. I was diagnosed with AML. Doctors recommended for us to seek medical treatment at MD Anderson in Houston Texas. I was officially diagnosed in 1989 and received 2 years of chemotherapy in MD Anderson waiting for a match. No one in my family matched as a donor, except for my grandmother who could not donate.
